Overview & Purpose: The transition from elementary to middle school is a major life event for 11- & 12- year-olds. Kids need to know they aren’t alone in their feelings of uncertainty or anxiety. At this camp, your child will connect with other kids through facilitated discussions, theater exercises, and community-building games, engage in fun activities to build self-confidence and social skills with the guidance of an experienced educator and life coach, and hear inspiring personal stories and tips from older students who “survived” the move to middle school! This workshop is not just for kids who are brand new to middle school. We also welcome 7th graders, who could use more support and practice with initiating and actively participating in conversations with peers, navigating the organizational challenges of expectations and assignments over multiple classes, and overall self-confidence. At the end of our week-long workshop, you'll be ready for a strong start to 7th grade. Every day, we will make time to nourish and move our bodies. Please bring a lunch from home. Objectives: 1. To build self-confidence and growth mindset skills so that the big move to middle school seems “do-able” 2. To build social skills by practicing strategies for making new friends 3. To have general or specific concerns/questions about middle school addressed 4. To decrease anxiety by processing feelings in a supportive group setting Sample Daily Schedule: 9:55-10:10 - Sign-in/arrival; warm-up activity 10:10-10:30 - Intro/Agenda/Goals; art expression 10:30-11:00 - Story Sharing Circle 11:00-11:10 - Reflection Journal 11:10-11:30 - Drama Exercise 11:30-11:40 - Writing Activity/ Partner Work 11:40-12:00 - Lunch 12:00-12:15 - Games 12:15-12:45 - Golden Nuggets (additional tips + tools) 12:45-1:00 - Closing Activity 1:00-1:05 - Sign-out/Pick-up For more information about the program or help with registration, please email: Althea Chow at info@nwkidslifecoaching.com or call (206) 207-5432.
